Did you know that there used to be over 140 warehouses along the waterfront here in Sandviken?

Join our guided tour and step inside the largest museum object we have – a fully preserved stockfish warehouse. This impressive wooden building is not just an exhibition space, it's a historical artefact in itself, protected as a heritage site and steeped in stories of a trade that no longer exists.

You'll learn why Sandviken was once known as the Venice of the North, and discover how these warehouses formed the backbone of Norway’s centuries-old fish export industry. As we walk through the space, you'll see the salt crystallised in the walls, still visible after decades of stockfish storage. You’ll even be able to smell the history – the rich, distinctive scent of dried fish that lingers in the timber tells its own story.

We encourage questions and conversations throughout the tour.

The tour starts at 1:00 PM in the museum reception, lasts approximately 45 minutes, and is conducted in English.

Admission includes access to the museum and the Storeblå Aquaculture Visitor Centre.
